Brainspotting

 

Brainspotting is a relatively new but highly effective therapeutic approach designed to help with a wide range of emotional and somatic issues. Basically, brainspotting is based on the concept that events and circumstances that we experience have corresponding brain circuits and activity that can be accessed by looking at various places in our visual field. With REM sleep or other approaches to therapy (like EMDR therapy), we know that eye movement is a critical component of processing memories – especially more painful ones. Brainspotting uses these same concepts to help you and your therapist more directly access memories that may be more deeply stored in more unconscious parts of your brain.
